Hornorable Guest Lecturer

Dr Charika Channuntapipat is currently a lecturer and researcher working at the University of Birmingham. Prior joining the University of Birmingham, she was a doctoral researcher at Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS). She did Master’s degree at London School of Economics (LSE), where her interest of ‘accounting’ went beyond the perspective of accounting as technical tools, but as a social practice. Her research interest focuses on the broad areas of sustainability governance and accountability; and the role of accounting profession in sustainable development. In particular, she is interested in the development of non-financial accounts and corporate reporting, as well as related assurance practices. These include standard setting process related to those practices; and the professionalisation of accounting firms to promote these non-financial assurance services.

She has been publishing her works in international journals, and engaging in international conferences and scholarly seminars. Her teaching portfolio includes social and environmental accounting, accounting theories and critical perspective of accounting. Her professional backgrounds are in the areas of accounting advisory services, and corporate banking. Prior to her doctoral study, she worked with KPMG (Thailand) to help Thai listed companies with the IFRS adoption. She also has some experience in corporate banking as she worked for a large commercial bank in Thailand as a corporate credit analyst.
